Public Mobile Launches 4G Speed Plans Again, Starting from $41.25/4GB

Telus-owned prepaid brand, Public Mobile, has introduced 4G plans today, plus other changes to its customer experience.

Back in August 2019, Public Mobile launched a new “visual identity” and removed 4G LTE plans for new customers, leaving 3G speed plans as the norm. But fast forward nearly three years, 4G plans are back, announced Public Mobile this morning.

Public Mobile is touting 4G speed plans as “up to 30x faster speed” versus 3G plans. 4G plans are limited to 100 Mbps download speeds, versus 3G at 3 Mbps.

“With our 4G speed plans, customers can browse up to 30x faster when compared to 3G speed plans. No matter which data speed you choose, you’ll always enjoy coast-to-coast coverage for great value with Public Mobile, on the TELUS 4G LTE network,” says the company.

All 4G plans come with unlimited nationwide minutes and unlimited international SMS/MMS. The new 4G plans are as follows:

  • $41.25/4GB
  • $45/6GB
  • $55/8GB
  • $60/10GB
  • $65/15GB
  • $85/25GB

Existing 3G speed plans are below:

  • $15/250MB (only 100 nationwide minutes)
  • $25/1GB
  • $35/3GB
  • $40/5GB
  • $50/10GB
  • $70/20GB

According to Public Mobile, 3G speed customers can switch to 4G speed plans through My Account.

A Public Mobile spokesperson told iPhone in Canada the company has also launched a “100% digital” experience as of today, as new subscribers can sign up from anywhere at any time, all online.

The company has also redesigned its My Account self-serve portal from the ground up, now offering a more mobile-friendly experience. Public Mobile is now also offering two-factor security for logins, asking for a confirmation code via text or email upon your first login to the new portal. This feature can be disabled in settings.

The new online portal has a much more simplified layout, with more visuals showing the status of your account, plus plan usage by messages, minutes and data, with progress bars showing how much you’ve used and what’s remaining. Add-on usage also has nice visual cues as well with circle graphs.
