Apple Shares Top “18 Things” from WWDC 2024 Keynote

Apple on Monday shared the top highlights from this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) keynote address, which kicked off the week-long event that will run until Friday, June 14.

“During the weeklong event, developers and students will have unique access to Apple experts, as well as insight into new tools, frameworks, and features to help elevate their apps and games,” said Apple.

The keynote was live-streamed from Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California. During the event, Apple execs took the stage to introduce new technologies and features across all of the company’s platforms.

The headline of this year’s WWDC keynote was “Apple Intelligence,” a new personal intelligence system coming to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac that “understands personal context to deliver intelligence that is helpful and relevant.” As part of Apple Intelligence, the tech giant is bringing all-new AI capabilities — including ChatGPT — to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Apple also announced iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, watchOS 11, visionOS 2, and tvOS 18, as well as new features for AirPods and a major redesign of the Photos app. What’s more, the company announced that its Vision Pro headset will finally be available outside the U.S. starting next month, including in Canada.

iOS 18 appears to be a rather incremental update, but it does bring more customizability, a more granular Control Center, the ability to arrange apps and widgets in any open space on the Home Screen, and the much-longed-for T9 dialling feature, among other things.

iPadOS 18, meanwhile, finally brings the Calculator app to the iPad (only took 14 years). The update also includes features designed for Apple Pencil, including a new feature called Math Notes and new handwriting tools such as Smart Script.
