Apple Self Service Repair is Coming to Canada

Apple has extended its Diagnostics for Self Service Repair software to 32 European nations, including the U.K., France, Germany, and the Netherlands today.
Also part of today’s announcement? Apple says Canada will get Self Service Repair too—but not until next year (hopefully it’s not late 2025). Talk about an early announcement and tease. The company mentioned Canada in the last line of its press release.
Originally launched in the U.S. in December 2023, this tool allows users to test their devices for parts functionality and performance, aligning their capabilities with those of Apple Authorized Service Providers and Independent Repair Providers. The program was Apple’s response to the growing right to repair movement in the U.S.
With this latest expansion, the software now supports iPhone, Mac, and Studio Display models across 33 countries and 24 languages.
Apple’s Diagnostics tool is a key part of the company’s efforts to prolong the lifespan of its products. While offering safe and affordable repair options is important, Apple’s primary focus remains on designing and building durable products.
“This journey is one that will never be over, because as materials, testing, and technology advance, so too will the ways that we use them to make our products stand the test of time. Products that are durable, reliable, and — when it benefits our customers and the environment — repairable,” said Apple in a new Whitepaper published today.
“When a repair is required, we protect user data, provide visibility into the parts that were used and, if needed, disable a feature for the protection of the device’s owner. And throughout this process, we reduce our impact on the environment. That’s our commitment to our customers, to future generations, and to the planet we call home,” concluded Apple.
Users can access Apple Diagnostics to determine if their devices require repairs. The process involves starting the session on a secondary device and following on-screen prompts to assess the status and performance of the potentially faulty device. This allows users to identify which parts need replacement.
Since its introduction in April 2022, Self Service Repair has enabled individuals with relevant repair experience to access Apple manuals, genuine parts, and tools, similar to those available at Apple Stores and authorized service providers. The service
The service now supports 42 Apple products, including the latest MacBook Air models powered by the M3 chip.
