Proton Launches Encrypted Google Docs Alternative

Proton has launched an open source end-to-end encrypted document editor within Proton Drive, addressing concerns over data privacy associated with big tech companies like Google and Microsoft.
Unlike Google Docs or Microsoft 365, which often track and collect user data, Proton’s Docs is totally private, ensuring that even keystrokes and cursor movements are encrypted.
Users can collaborate in real-time, add comments, and securely store files. You can also import and export various document formats to edit. The feature integrates seamlessly into Proton Drive, offering a unified space for document management.
Proton emphasizes that all data remains private (even they can’t read your data), protected under Swiss privacy laws. Proton Docs is encrypted so your data won’t be used in AI training.
The new document editor is free and available to all Proton Drive users. Docs is rolling out today and all users will get the new features over the “next couple of days”.
