Samsung Announced Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, Launching July 24

During its summer Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris, Samsung revealed its new foldable smartphones. This year, the company is launching its Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, both with Galaxy AI features built-in.
This year, Samsung is aiming to make its foldable devices faster and perform better while also making strides to improve design. The end result leaves Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 looking very familiar with some distinct differences from its predecessors. For most users, the cosmetic differences will probably be hard to spot. However, Samsung has made some efforts to refine the experience. However, it’s the software that’ll likely have users talking thanks to the addition of Galaxy AI.
Both devices launch on July 24th with preorders available now.
Galaxy Z Fold 6
Samsung’s flagship foldable is still retaining its elegant centre fold, splitting the 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x display. The cover display offers a 6.3-inch display, slightly larger than the 6.2-inch cover display of 2023’s model. This year, the display offers an improved brightness, up to 2,600 nits compared to Z Fold 5’s 1,750 nits. The main display resolution is also upgraded to 2160 x 1856.

From a design standpoint, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 offers an Aromor Aluminum chassis, available in ‘Silver Shadow,’ ‘Navy’ and ‘Pink.’ There have been small tweaks made to the dimensions of the frame as well. When folded, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is 153.5 x 68.1 x 12.2 mm, making it slightly shorter and thinner than its predecessor. With the extra 0.1-inch display, the exterior display ends up looking larger. The changes to the chassis and its dimensions equate to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 being 14 grams lighter.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 is powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. Upgraded from last year’s Gen 2 chip, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 should offer improved performance and battery life. With that in mind, this year’s model retains its 4,400mAh battery. It also offers 12GB of RAM and a dustproof rating of IP48. It will also come with 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options.
This year, Samsung has decided to omit any camera updates. Instead, many of the refreshes stem from performance improvements. Thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Galaxy Z Fold 6 will utilize Samsung Galaxy AI, Gauss Language, and Gauss Image models. Users will have access to current features including Circle to Search, powered by Google’s engine. Additionally, users can also use in-call audio and text translations, which render language in supported languages in real time.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 launches in Canada on July 24th. Preorders are available now and start at $2,564.99 for the 256GB model.
Galaxy Z Flip 6
On the flip side of things, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 has a few improvements over last year’s model. The device still offers its 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x main display with a 2640 x 1080 FHD resolution. Its novel Flex Window is also the same 3.4 inches, supporting a Super AMOLED display. However, it’s now 0.2mm thinner when folded. This year’s dimensions come to 85.1 x 71.9 x 14.9mm. However, the device is still 87 grams in weight.

As launch, Samsung is offering the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in ‘Silver Shadow,’ ‘Blue,’ ‘Mint,’ and ‘Yellow.’ The back panel is super sleek and shiny. However, the colour is now reflective across the entirety of the device rather than the back panel exclusively. The front continues to use Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Once again, Samsung is utilizing the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, powering Galaxy AI features. Users can also take advantage of the improved 4,000mAh battery, up from 3,700mAh. Internal specs also include 12GB of RAM alongside 256GB and 512GB of storage options. As for the camera, Galaxy Z Flip 6 sports an upgraded 50-megapixel main lens with the same f/1.8 aperture and 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide lens. The front-facing camera is the same 10-megapixel and f/2.2 lens.
As with its Z Fold 6 counterpart, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 6 will also incorporate Galaxy AI. Alongside the aforementioned Circle to Search functionality, translations, etc., Galaxy AI will also offer users the ability to sketch a picture. The AI-powered tools will then create a generative photo using pre-established styles to choose from. Users can also take a screenshot of a math equation and have Galaxy AI solve it with every step of the solution given to the user. This is not only available on Galaxy Z Flip 6 but the Z Fold 6 as well.
Galaxy Z Flip 6 also launches in Canada on July 24th. Preorders are up now and start at $1,462.99 for the 256GB model.
