This release comes just over three months after AltStore PAL’s launch in the EU, marking a notable shift in the availability of applications outside Apple’s official iOS App Store.

The latest additions to AltStore PAL’s lineup feature four new apps, three of which are exclusive to this platform and unavailable on Apple’s App Store. These apps include iTorrent, qBitControl, PeopleDrop, and UTM SE.

Apple has traditionally banned all torrent apps on its iOS App Store, citing concerns that they are often used for infringing third-party rights. However, the landscape has changed with the introduction of the EU’s Digital Markets Act, which has curtailed Apple’s control over its app ecosystem within the bloc.

This legislation aims to create a more competitive and open digital market, allowing third-party app stores like AltStore PAL to offer apps that Apple might otherwise restrict.

By choosing to install apps from third-party sources, however, users must weigh the benefits against possible security and privacy concerns. The decision to download and use torrenting apps, in particular, carries inherent risks due to their association with content piracy.

AltStore PAL’s ability to provide exclusive apps not found on Apple’s official platform highlights its growing influence and appeal among iOS users seeking more diverse app choices.

As the store continues to expand its offerings, it will be interesting to see how Apple responds and whether more developers will turn to alternative marketplaces to reach users within the EU.
