New PlayStation 5 Beta Rolls Out Tomorrow, Supporting Personalized 3D Audio Profiles

PlayStation has announced that a new software beta will be rolling out tomorrow, introducing new personalized 3D audio profiles alongside Remote Play features. PlayStation 5 Slim users will also gain access to adaptive charging if they’re enrolled in the beta.

As detailed in the latest PlayStation Blog post, all users invited to PlayStation 5’s beta will be able to start testing the new 3D audio profiles for headphones and earbuds. Available across all PlayStation 5 models, this work-in-progress feature lets players create a personalized 3D audio profile to best suit their hearing characteristics.

PlayStation details that the feature can help better represent the positioning of a character or object in the world using audio, creating a more immersive experience. This feature utilizes PlayStation’s 3D audio technology, supported across Pulse 3D headsets, Pulse Elite, and Pulse Explore earbuds. Additionally, this feature will support 3D audio supported built-in TV speakers select Dolby Atmos-enabled audio devices.

Once available, players can go to ‘Settings’ and ‘Sound’ to select ‘3D Audio(Headphones) on their console. Follow the steps on the screen to create your personalized 3D audio profile. This profile is then saved to your PlayStation 5. Other users can create their own as it’ll be saved to their profile. Default 3D audio presets will remain available.

All PlayStation 5 players enrolled in the beta will also be able to test new Remote Play restrictions and options. The new feature lets you control who can connect to your PlayStation 5 using Remote Play. So, if a family member or friend comes over, you can set them up on your PlayStation 5 with their PlayStation Network ID and moderate whether they continue to have access to Remote Play when they leave.

To do so, select ‘Settings’ and ‘System’ and navigate to ‘Remote Play’. When ‘Enable Remote Play’ is selected, choose which use you wish to continue having access to your console using Remote Play.

Finally, beta members on the PlayStation 5 Slim console will be the first to test adaptive charging for DualSense and DualSense Edge. When the console is in Rest Mode, adaptive charging helps save power by adjusting the length of time that power is supplied to your controller based on its battery life.

To enable adaptive charging, go to ‘Settings’, ‘System’, and ‘Power Saving’. You’ll find the ‘Features Available in Rest Mode’ option. Select ‘Supply Power to USB Ports’ in which you’ll want to choose ‘Adaptive’. Once your console is in Rest Mode and a controller isn’t connected, the USB port will no longer receive power supply after a certain period until the console is turned back on.

PlayStation 5 beta access is supported across Canada, the U.S., Japan, the U.K., Germany and France. Those selected for the beta will receive an email invitation on July 25.  There’s no word on when exactly these features will be available to a wider player base. PlayStation notes, “Some features available during the beta phase may not make it into the final version.”
