Apple Delays Apple Intelligence in iOS 18 to October, Says Report

Apple’s upcoming artificial intelligence (AI) features will be released later than initially planned, missing the September launch of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman on Sunday (he just got back from holidays).

This also means the new iPhone 16 line up won’t have access to Apple Intelligence at launch, and will have to wait for the iOS 18.1 update weeks later.

Sources tell Gurman Apple Intelligence will come in October with iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 updates, which likely will have more bug fixes by then.

But developers will get access to Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 betas as early as this week, says Gurman.

Stability of Apple Intelligence features prompted the separation from the initial iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 launches, say sources. Now, Apple will get feedback from developers on AI features as they test betas.

Even with the launch of iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1, some significant changes to Siri will be missing as part of Apple Intelligence. Apple plans to roll out the full set of Apple Intelligence features through multiple updates into 2025.

Only iPhone 15 Pro or newer, and iPad and Macs with M1 chips or newer will support Apple Intelligence features.

Pretty much a moot point as a vast majority of current iPhone users do not have a device that will run it – and I would posit there won't be a mad dash to pay the exhorbitant price to upgrade to do so.
And those that do have the latest and greatest may well be looking for the switch to turn the feature off.
