Volkswagen Partnering with AirConsole to Bring Gaming to ID.7 and Other Models

Volkswagen has announced its partnership with Zurich-based company AirConsole. Using the latter’s technology, Volkswagen will now provide in-vehicle gaming experiences on their respective infotainment systems.

As revealed by the company, the AirConsole partnership will first begin launching AirConsole capabilities in the first European countries by “mid-September”. Once available, drivers and passengers can use their smartphones as consoles with gameplay appearing on the infotainment display. Games available via AirConsole include Death Squared, Whack Attack, Burnin’ Rubber 5, and Mega Monster Party.

Players must simply use their smartphones as a controller and the controller and the VW Active Info Display will act as the gaming console. Using the AirConsole app in the vehicle, passengers and the driver can establish a connection between their smartphone and the vehicle. However, the vehicle must be parked to enable gameplay.

Volkswagen aims to support AirConsole across the ID.7, ID.5, ID.4 and ID.3 product lines. As of the time of writing, there’s no word on when support will be made available in Canada. However, by the company is planning its European expansion by early 2025.

The dream is adding a driving game that you can use the steering wheel for (assuming it was physically possible) since that’s an actual value add over just playing on my phone directly…

But I still appreciate this. Great for ferry lineups.
