Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2, already the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, has set new records with its recent Disney+ release on September 25.
The film reached 30.5 million views globally in just five days, making it the top film premiere on Disney+ in 2024 and the biggest theatrical film debut on the platform since Encanto in 2021, according to the company in an email to iPhone in Canada.
The popularity of Inside Out 2 has also increased streams of the original Inside Out film (2015), which has now seen more than 121 million views globally on Disney+.
Set inside the mind of teenager Riley, Inside Out 2 debuts a new lineup of Emotions—Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment—joining familiar faces like Joy, Sadness, and Anger. Directed by Kelsey Mann, the film explores how these new emotions change Riley’s life as she navigates adolescence. It was a great film that was almost as good as the original movie.
Disney+ had a timed promo that offered its basic streaming plan with ads for $1.99 for three months, which likely helped increase views of Inside Out 2.
After its theatrical release on June 14, Inside Out 2 broke records, crossing the $1 billion mark in just 19 days, faster than any other animated film, says Disney. It remains the highest-grossing movie of 2024 and the only animated film to top $1 billion internationally, which is no small feat.
