Google is rolling out its September 2026 Pixel Drop, and the biggest change for Canadians is wider Scam Detection support.
Starting with this update, Scam Detection in notifications is expanding to Canada on Pixel 6 and newer phones. The feature can flag suspicious incoming chat notifications with a “Likely scam” warning before you even open the message.
That closes a gap from earlier drops. Google’s November 2025 Pixel Drop brought chat scam detection to Pixel 6 and newer in the U.S., while Canada mainly got scam call detection at the time. Notification-level chat warnings for Canadians are the new piece.
It lands in a market already flooded with smishing and social-engineering texts. Canadians keep seeing convincing carrier login phishing over SMS, and delivery-style scams have cost people their phones. Google has been layering on-device AI for this for a while, from earlier scam detection in Google Messages to broader Android scam protection updates through 2025.
Google says the notification feature is also expanding to Australia, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Singapore and the UK, along with support for more languages.
A newer Scam Detection feature built directly into Gboard is also part of the September Pixel Drop, but that one is only launching in the U.S. for now. It can warn users while they are typing a reply to a suspicious message.
Other changes in the update include improvements to Pixel VIPs. Google has added redesigned widgets with quick actions for calling or texting favourite contacts, along with notification badges for unread or urgent messages.
Pause Point is also expanding beyond the Pixel 11. The feature, which adds a short pause before opening an app you consider distracting, is now rolling out to Pixel 6 and newer phones.
Google is also adding Harry Potter Audiobook Packs, which can change a Pixel’s wallpaper, icons and sounds with one tap. The promotion includes a two-month Audible trial for eligible users in Canada and several other countries.
The September Pixel Drop starts rolling out today, with availability depending on the device and carrier. Google says the rollout will continue in phases over the coming weeks.
As usual, Pixel owners will need the latest Android version and updated apps to get the new features.
