Palworld Developer Signs Licensing Agreement to Expand IP Onto Mobile

Japanese developer Pocketpair Inc. has signed a licencing agreement with South Korean game publisher Krafton, over the ability to “expand the Palworld IP to the mobile platform.”

The deal was announced early on October 2nd with Krafton stating its plans to bring Palworld to mobile devices. In the translated press release, Kraton says that PUBG Studios will work on the project to “faithfully reinterpret and implement the original’s main fun elements to fit the mobile environment.”

Unfortunately, there’s not much news regarding the announcement. Krafton refrains from outright stating whether this game will be a 1:1 Palworld port. It is now available across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s also unknown whether the mobile version of Palworld will come to both iOS and Android at the same time or if Krafton plans to stagger releases.

Palworld was an undisputed success this year when it was first released on PC and Xbox. Described as ‘Pokémon with guns’, the game sold five million copies within its first three days on the market. Last week, PlayStation had its State of Play for September, where it was announced that Palworld was now available on PlayStation 5.

Recently, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Pocketpair. According to Nintendo, the Palworld developer “infringes multiple patent rights.” Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are seeking an injunction on found infringements as well as compensation. Pocketpair has responded stating it was “unaware of the specific patents” and is pivoting its resources to investigate Nintendo’s claims.
