YouTube Rolls Out New Features Across Web, Mobile, and TV

Youtube new features.

YouTube is rolling out a series of updates aimed at improving the experience for both viewers and creators, with over two dozen new features coming to web, mobile, TVs, and YouTube Music starting today.

One of the major updates includes the ability to fine-tune playback speed in 0.05 increments, allowing users more control over how they watch content.

There are also improvements in landscape browsing, with larger thumbnails and text, designed to enhance the experience, especially for iOS users, later this year.

Also, visual tweaks across the platform aim to simplify navigation and make content more accessible.

The YouTube mobile app’s miniplayer has been upgraded, allowing users to resize and move it while continuing to browse videos. This update makes it easier to multitask and add videos to queues without pausing what’s you’re already watching.

New collaborative playlist features are also on the way, making it simple to build, share, and vote on playlists with friends and family.

Users will soon be able to create custom thumbnails for playlists using photos, filters, and stickers, or generate thumbnails with AI. Later in 2024, viewers can vote on playlist videos.

Another helpful addition is the new Sleep Timer, which allows users to set a timer to automatically pause videos after a certain amount of time. Previously tested with Premium members, the feature is now available to all users on mobile for free. You can set a timer for 10, 15, 20, 30, 45 minutes, 1 hour or end of video. This way, videos won’t keep playing while you’re asleep.

The YouTube ‘rabbit hole’ is especially prevelant late at night, and still there’s no cure to breaking the addiction of watching just…one…more…video.
