Fido Cranks Up the Heat to Get Customers on Automatic Payments
Rogers-owned Fido is putting more pressure on customers to set up automatic payments, to get the lowest possible monthly pricing.
Fido has increased its automatic payments discount—available when you set up a preauthorized credit card payment—to $10 per month, up from $5 per month.
This has resulted in the same pricing after the new $10 automatic payments discount, but base pricing has also increased $5 to offset the cost. In other words, if you’re not adding your credit card to set up a preauthorized payment—you’ll be paying $5 more per month.
Here are current prices as follows from Fido, Koodo and Virgin Plus:
Fido (after $10/month automatic payments discount)
- $44/20GB ($54 without)
- $49/40GB ($59 without)
- $54/60GB ($64 without)
Koodo (after $5/month automatic payments discount)
- $44/20GB ($49 without)
- $49/40GB ($54 without)
- $54/60GB ($59 without)
Virgin Plus (no automatic payment discounts yet)
- $44/20GB
- $49/40GB
- $54/60GB
This change from Fido comes ahead of next month’s Black Friday, when some of the best cellphone promos of the year are expected. Earlier this month, Rogers and Fido increased select plans for existing customers by $5 per month. Both companies also plan to shutdown their prepaid wireless services in December.

These types of charges are the epitome of “junk fees” and should be illegal, along with the activation fee.
Theives, playing with Numbers!😃
Good luck. Get me on automatic payments so you can charge me overages and fees I can't track quick enough. I'll pay manually each month. What a bunch of criminals.
