Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is Expected to Drive $300 Million in Toronto’s Economy

In November, Taylor Swift arrives in Toronto for six total shows as part of her global smash-hit Eras Tour. Spanning from November 14th to November 23rd, Swift’s stint in Toronto is expected to drive as much as $300 million in the city’s economy.

As reported by CP24, the latest data from Destination Toronto shows that Swift’s six-night stop in Toronto could bring $282 million in “economic impact” to Toronto. The data goes on to specify that $152 million of that count is being attributed to possible direct spending from out-of-towners, which is believed to be 93 percent of the spenders.

“That’s visitor spending, that’s people coming in for the show, experiencing it, staying a day or two, maybe. But then once that money’s in the system here in Toronto it continues to circulate through the economy,” Andrew Weir, president and CEO of Destination Toronto, said this week.

It’s believed that upwards of 240,000 Taylor Swift fans will come to Toronto over the course of her stay during the Eras Tour. Swift’s latest tour began in March and is the first ever tour to cross $1 billion USD (around $1.3 billion CAD). It’s also expected that the Eras Tour stops in Toronto, played at the Rogers Centre, will generate nearly $40 million in tax revenue.

“Toronto is excited to welcome another major event this November that will contribute millions of dollars in direct spending and support local businesses and jobs,” Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said.

As of September 29th, Destination Toronto claims hotel bookings during the Eras Tour dates are up 83 percent in the downtown area compared to the same period in 2023. Year-over-year bookings across the entire city are said to be up 36 percent.

Following her stop in Toronto, Swift will proceed to Vancouver where she’ll play in the city from December 6th through to December 8th.

And how much money goes out? Just about all of the money coming in will be from locals and visitors to the city, but the expenses of bringing her, her team and equipment will be "outgo" as will her profits and the money paid to her team. The net result of this activity is a cash flow out of the economy.
