Rogers Lands Naming Rights for Ottawa Centre; Taxis Gain Washroom Access

The Ottawa Convention Centre has signed a 10-year naming rights deal with Rogers, rebranding the venue as Rogers Centre Ottawa. Formerly, it was named the Shaw Centre. We know that Rogers previously acquired Shaw, so naturally the naming would eventually change.
“We are excited to announce this incredible partnership with Rogers Communications,” said Jim Armour, Chair of the Board for the Ottawa Convention Centre’s Centre, in a statement. “The renaming to Rogers Centre Ottawa marks a new chapter for our convention centre, one that will provide innovation and the delivery of exceptional events.
The Rogers logo is now visible on the centre’s website and digital platforms, with signage updates set for completion by the year’s end. The venue will continue to promote itself as ‘Canada’s Meeting Place’ with Ottawa Tourism’s support.
“We are excited about the possibilities this partnership will bring, not only for our clients and guest but for the entire Ottawa community,” said Nina Kressler, President and CEO of the Ottawa Convention Centre.
In related news, the centre has restored washroom access for Ottawa’s taxi drivers after lobbying efforts by Unifor. The union met with the centre after a driver was denied access last year by security, which happened more than once. Now, taxi drivers in the city have regained access to washrooms at the centre.
“We are thrilled about this because they are not a Unifor employer – but they accepted to meet with our union following the letter sent to them and agreed to make a change to their practice that is in line with our demands on access to bathrooms for road transportation workers,” said Unifor Ontario Regional Director Samia Hashi, earlier this week.
Rogers continues to increase its brand across arenas. Earlier this year, Salmon Arm Arena in BC was renamed to Rogers Rink. Last year, Nat Bailey Stadium in Vancouver was renamed Rogers Field at Nat Bailey Stadium. Coming next year, a massive outdoor 50,000 seat stadium by Live Nation will be known as Rogers Stadium.
