CRTC to Fast-Track High Speed Internet Expansion Plans
The CRTC is making changes to its Broadband Fund to fast-track high-speed Internet and cellphone services more quickly for remote areas.
These updates come after a review in 2023, which included feedback from all stakeholders.
One change focuses on speeding up the application process and making it easier for companies to secure funding. This means projects can start sooner, allowing people to get online faster. Sounds like there will be less red tape than before, but that remains to be seen.
“Canadians use Internet and cellphone services every day to work, to find information, to access healthcare, and to connect with others. But the reality is that there are many communities in Canada that still lack access. We are improving the Broadband Fund to help close that gap,” said Vicky Eatrides, Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer, CRTC, in a statement.
Another improvement is aimed at supporting Indigenous communities. The CRTC plans to provide funding for Indigenous-led projects and requires companies to work closely with affected Indigenous communities, including obtaining permission before building infrastructure.

More quickly? Like it ever was "more" quickly?
Is quickly defined like how they "investigate" cellphone/internet price increases?
Yeah okay, maybe over a few beers no doubt.
