Threads Surpasses 300 Million Monthly Users

Meta’s X alternative Threads has achieved a significant milestone, reaching over 300 million monthly active users (MAUs) as of June 2024. The announcement was made by Mark Zuckerberg via a Threads post earlier today.

The milestone marks a rapid increase for Threads, which added 100 million new monthly users in just under five months. This growth rate surpasses its previous pace, where the platform took approximately 10 months to grow from 100 million to 200 million monthly active users.

Threads’ user growth has compounded significantly in recent months, a phenomenon often seen with platforms that thrive on shared discussions. As more users join Threads to contribute to conversations, the network effect drives more sign-ups, leading to exponential expansion.

At 300 million MAUs, the platform is now over halfway to rival X, which currently holds approximately 570 million monthly active users.

In addition to monthly user milestones, Threads’ head Adam Mosseri also revealed another key metric: the platform’s daily active user (DAU) count. According to Mosseri, Threads has exceeded 100 million daily users, highlighting steady engagement levels on the app.

For context, X has maintained 250 million daily active users since late 2022. While Threads’ DAU-to-MAU ratio currently sits at around 33%, which is lower compared to X’s ratio of approximately 44%, the consistent influx of new users suggests that retention and engagement may continue to grow in the coming months.

If Threads maintains its trajectory, it could reshape the social media landscape by potentially surpassing half a billion users next year, further narrowing the gap with X.

However, sustaining such rapid growth will depend on Meta’s ability to boost user engagement, encourage content creation, and deliver new features to maintain interest over time.

I’m sure that, as it is the case with the most reliable data out there, it was self reported.
