Xplore is now offering high-speed pure fibre internet in Portapique, Nova Scotia. According to the company, residents of Portapique can now enjoy gigabit fibre connections. “Locals can start surfing, streaming, and gaming with gigabit speeds today,” the New Brunswick-based internet provider announced in a recent tweet.

You can head over to Xplore’s website to check whether the company’s fibre-to-the-home service is available at your address.

Xplore plans to bring gigabit-speed broadband services to over 400,000 homes over the coming years, positioning itself as rural Canada’s largest independent fibre internet provider.

As of February of this year, Xplore’s fibre network served around 65,000 homes. Since then, the company has exceeded fibre-to-the-home service growth targets in Prince Edward Island, received $63 million in government funding to connect more than 8,800 households in rural Alberta, and secured significant debt and equity financing to aid its expansion plans.

Xplore also launched its next-gen satellite internet service earlier this year, with the company’s satellite constellation being ferried to space aboard SpaceX’s reusable Falcon 9 rockets. Furthermore, the internet provider is working on transitioning its fixed wireless networks to 5G technology.

Nova Scotia is also on track for major cellular service improvements — especially in areas with poor wireless connectivity, with the province making its largest-ever investment in cellular infrastructure earlier this year.
