Bluesky Launches New Trending Topics Feature in Beta

Bluesky has launched a new Trending Topics feature in beta. This highly-requested feature pushes the social media platform ever the more close to competing with the likes of X (formerly Twitter) and Meta’s Threads.
The Trending Topics feature can be found on both web and mobile versions of Bluesky. Much like on other social platforms, Bluesky highlights trending content and viral topics that are being discussed. So, whether it’s “Christmas,” “NFL,” or “Squid Game Season 2,” these topics can be found in the Trending section. As first spotted by TechCrunch, the feature is only available in beta.

While Trending Topics is still in active development and is being worked on, there’s still a level of control and curation. For instance, any muted words you have won’t be displayed in the Trending Topics section. Phrases or words will not appear for you. You can also turn this feature off completely as well. By going to ‘Settings’ and navigating to ‘Content and Media’ you can select ‘Enable trending topics’ to be on or off.
This isn’t the only feature Bluesky has recently launched. As part of its latest Update 1.96, Bluesky released a new Mentions tab, where you can see your replies and conversations you’ve been tagged in.
Bluesky has recently reached 25 million users. Following the election in November, the platform reached the first place spot on the App Store. While falling from this position, the company is still finding ways to provide an alternative experience from its competition.
