Apple Brings Back 0% Financing in Canada Ahead of iPhone 17

apple financing affirm

This could be a sign of good things to come. Apple Canada has dropped its financing rate back to 0% for the iPhone, through its partner Affirm.

As far back as 2021, Apple had 0% interest payments for iPhone, iPad and Mac. But ahead of the iPhone 15 series launch in 2023, Apple increased interest-free financing, matching high rates at the time.

The iPhone annual percentage rate (APR) was turned up to 7.99% over 24 months, but this week Apple has dropped it back to 0% over the same term length. This means you can just straight up repay your iPhone purchase over 24 months in equal instalments, with 0% interest.

Other financing interest rates from Apple is as follows:

Back in 2023, Mac financing was at 4.99% but that went up to 7.99% we’re seeing today. With 0% financing set on iPhone so early, it could be a sign that Apple is pushing for more sales right now. It’s unclear if we’ll see rates drop to 0% for iPad, Mac and more.

Is this part of Apple’s plan to prepare customers seeking upgrades this year with the new iPhone 17 series that is expected to finally come with a new design (and a rumoured iPhone 17 ‘Air’)? Are you going to jump on an iPhone with 0% APR again?

The problem is Affirm is really bad. You can't use your credit card with them and forced to give your bank info. The company Apple used before affirm was way better (but I think they were bought by Affirm). Now, if you want to buy Apple stuff with 0% financing, the best way is to use the Amazon credit card and use the 12 month % financing when you buy an Apple product on Amazon (in Quebec, for other province, any credit card will finance with 0% interest for 12 months)

I don’t mind Affirm. Setting up a pre auth payment through your bank is easier than having them charge a card ,then you having to transfer funds from the same bank account you didn’t want affirm to use to the credit card.
