iPhone 17 Said to Feature Vapor Chamber Cooling System

According to a new report coming out of China, Apple is set to enhance the thermal management of its upcoming iPhone 17 lineup by incorporating vapor chamber (VC) cooling systems (via MacRumors).

The iPhone 17 series, encompassing the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, is anticipated to adopt VC cooling technology. This system efficiently dissipates heat by allowing a liquid to evaporate and condense within a sealed chamber, thereby distributing heat more evenly and preventing thermal throttling.

Previous iPhone models, notably the iPhone 15 Pro, encountered thermal issues under heavy workloads. While the iPhone 16 Pro introduced improvements with an aluminum thermal substructure and graphene sheets, challenges persisted during intensive use. The integration of VC cooling in the iPhone 17 lineup aims to resolve these issues.

Veteran Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously indicated that the iPhone 17 Pro Max would exclusively feature an upgraded cooling system combining VC technology with graphite sheets, while other models would continue using traditional graphite sheets.

However, recent reports suggest that Apple plans to implement VC cooling across the entire iPhone 17 lineup, marking a significant shift in the company’s approach to thermal management.

VC cooling in iPhone 17 is expected to enhance the user experience by maintaining optimal device temperatures during resource-intensive tasks, such as gaming or video editing.
