Apple Powerbeats Pro 2 Coming, and New Mac Mail: Report

In this week’s edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman reported that Apple is set to launch its Powerbeats Pro 2 earbuds “imminently,” and that a new Apple Intelligence-powered Mail experience is coming to macOS soon.

“The new accessory has already been submitted to the Federal Communications Commission and other regulators for approval,” the renowned Apple leaker said about the Powerbeats Pro 2. Gurman predicted that Apple could hold a press briefing to unveil the latest earbuds from its Beats subsidiary in as little as a week.

Beats teased its successor to the original Powerbeats Pro, which came out in 2019, last year. The second-generation premium earbuds will reportedly feature a smaller design, better active noise cancellation, and new features like Spatial Audio that are already available on AirPods.

According to Gurman, code within iOS suggests that the Powerbeats Pro 2 could even be capable of heart rate monitoring, a feature long-rumoured to be coming to Apple’s wireless earbuds.

Gurman also noted in his newsletter that Apple plans to roll out Apple Intelligence features for the Mail app on Mac with macOS 15.4 in April. This will be around the same time the new, redesigned Siri digital assistant comes out with iOS 18.4.

Apple already supercharged the Mail app for iPhone and iPad with new AI features, but they’ve been notably absent on Mac. “The Mac will get the upgraded Mail app that uses AI to prioritize messages and sort content into different inboxes,” Gurman noted, explaining that the new app organizes mail into a primary category, along with dedicated inboxes for transactions, promotions, updates, and all mail.

Ahead of macOS 15.4 in April, Apple will bring its Genmoji custom emoji and other Apple Intelligence features to the Mac with the release of macOS 15.3 in the coming weeks.

As Apple continues its gradual Apple Intelligence rollout, iOS 18.3 and macOS 15.3 will conversely scale back AI-driven notification summaries over complaints of incorrect or misleading notifications. Apple is completely nixing summaries for notifications from news and entertainment apps, while also making it easier to disable summaries from the lock screen.
