Apple’s New App Lets You Send Invites and Create Party Playlists

Apple on Tuesday has unveiled Apple Invites, a new app designed to make planning events and sending invitations easier. This looks to be Apple’s solution against invite services out there.

Available for free on the App Store and the web, the app allows users to create custom digital invitations for any occasion and share them easily with friends and family.

“With Apple Invites, an event comes to life from the moment the invitation is created, and users can share lasting memories even after they get together,” said Brent Chiu-Watson, Apple’s senior director of Worldwide Product Marketing for Apps and iCloud, in a statement. “Apple Invites brings together capabilities our users already know and love across iPhone, iCloud, and Apple Music, making it easy to plan special events.”

You can personalize invitations by choosing your own photos or a selection of curated backgrounds. The app also integrates with Apple Maps and Weather, so guests can get directions and check the forecast for the event. Once an event is created, attendees can RSVP without needing an Apple device or account, making it available to everyone.

Guests can also contribute to a shared photo album, allowing memories to be captured and relived after the event. Apple Music integration lets event hosts create playlists that attendees can listen to before and during the gathering (they will need an Apple Music subscription).

Apple Intelligence adds even more customization options. The Image Playground feature allows users to generate unique invitation images, while Writing Tools help craft the perfect event message. Apple Invites gives hosts full control over their event details, including guest lists, RSVP tracking, and privacy settings.

Now, this sounds all fine and dandy, but there’s a catch. Apple Invites is only available to iCloud+ subscribers, who can create and manage events, while anyone can RSVP. iCloud+ plans start at $1.29 per month in Canada.

Apple Invites is now available for download on the App Store and can also be accessed at icloud.com/invites. The app requires iOS 18 or later to run. Not sure how popular this is going to be since you need an iCloud+ plan to use Apple Invites.

Maybe I’m crazy but don’t most people have iCloud plus? Who is using less than 5GB of iCloud storage? Pretty much everyone I know has the 50GB plan, even senior citizens (can’t lose those photos of the grandkids!)

You are not crazy 🙂 $1.29 per month for entry level iCloud+ is not a huge barrier. I don’t understand why is that considered a “catch” and reason to question broader adoption of the app.
