Apple Launches Powerbeats Pro 2 with Price Hike in Canada

Apple’s worst kept secret is finally out, as its subsidiary Beats has launched Powerbeats Pro 2, a new version of its wireless earbuds built for workouts. They are also now live on Amazon.ca as well with Prime shipping speeds.

Here are the key features of Powerbeats Pro 2:

  • Heart Rate Monitoring – Tracks your pulse during workouts and syncs with fitness apps.
  • Noise Control – Switch between Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) to block out sound and Transparency Mode to let in outside noise.
  • Battery Life – Up to 10 hours per charge and 45 hours total with the charging case. A 5-minute charge gives 90 minutes of playback.
  • Lighter Design – 20% lighter than the previous version, with an updated earhook for a better fit.
  • Wireless Charging – The case now supports wireless charging and is 33% smaller.
  • Multiple Ear Tip Sizes – Now with five sizes to get a better fit.
  • Sweat & Water Resistant – IPX4 rating means they can handle rain and sweat.
  • Improved Call Quality – Uses the same microphones as AirPods Pro 2 for clearer calls and voice isolation.

Powerbeats Pro 2 run on Apple’s H2 chip, the same one used in AirPods Pro 2, which helps with sound quality, noise cancellation, and battery efficiency. Colours available include Jet Black, Hyper Purple, Quick Sand and Electric Orange. Get ready to start seeing these being worn by your local gym rats.

Apple says these are “build for athletes” and for Canada it comes with a slight price increase over the predecessor. Powerbeats Pro 2 cost $349.95, up from $329.95 when the predecessor launched. You can blame this difference on the weak Loonie, as the earphones cost $250 USD which works out to about $356 CAD after exchange rates. Update: The US pricing is $250 USD, not $299 USD.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman who previously leaked that Powerbeats 2 were imminent, called them “terrific” in his initial tests. Other early reviews are also out on YouTube from the usual suspects.

Click here to buy Powerbeats Pro 2 on Apple.ca–they release on February 13 and can deliver as soon as February 17 via Amazon.ca (and faster than Apple.ca in our area).

I have had a Beats Studio and older Power beats pro die on me shortly after the 1 year warranty expired. If I ever consider buying Beats again I would definitely get AppleCare with it.
