Grok 3 Now Free for All, Tops App Store Charts in Canada and Beyond

After xAI announced Grok 3 this week, claiming it was the “world’s smartest AI” at the moment, early access was only made available to X users that were on Premium+ subscriptions.
But on Wednesday evening, xAI surprised everyone by saying Grok 3 would now be free for all “until our servers melt”. This means Grok 3 is now available inside the X app, on grok.com and also with the standalone Grok app for iPhone and iPad.
After the announcement of Grok 3 being free, the Grok app has now surged to the number one spot in Apple’s App Store in the Free Apps category, surpassing OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
xAI says Grok 3 is the most powerful AI model to date, excelling in reasoning, math, coding, world knowledge, and instruction-following. It delivers top-tier performance across various benchmarks. What gives Grok an advantage over other generative AI chatbots is that it does not have an information cut off date. It is able to get information in real-time, especially from posts on X.
With this release, two major features debut: DeepSearch and Think. DeepSearch acts as a smart agent, quickly gathering key information, analyzing conflicting facts, and simplifying complex topics. The Think feature enhances reasoning, making it ideal for math, science, and coding tasks. Users can also prompt Grok to “Think harder” for more in-depth responses. Some of the detailed responses are pretty impressive, while image generation can make for some hilarious pictures.
For developers, Grok 3—both standard and reasoning models—along with DeepSearch, will soon be available via API.
Elon Musk has also confirmed that voice mode and additional features will roll out in the coming days (likely similar to ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode).
