Bell Media has laid off 98 employees, mostly in service and corporate departments, as part of its shift toward a “digital media and content leader”, the company confirmed to the Toronto Star.
Of those affected, 44 are unionized workers, with most being offered voluntary separation packages. A Bell Media spokesperson stated that no CTV News journalists were impacted, and no news programs have been cancelled.
Earlier this month, Bell Media introduced a voluntary separation program for around 1,200 unionized employees, signaling broader restructuring efforts. Bell also cut jobs back in November, and also during last March after its Bell Let’s Talk campaign.
Bell isn’t the only big telecom cutting jobs. Rogers cut customer service staff earlier this month, while Telus also offered voluntary severance packages to about 700 union workers nationwide as well.
The telecom’s parent company BCE saw Q4 net earnings rise to $505 million but saw postpaid wireless activations drop significantly.
