Canada Post Identity+ App Fails, Blocks Voters in Liberal Election

The Canada Post Identity+ app is facing harsh criticism for failing to verify IDs required for the Liberal leadership vote. The app’s popularity has seen it soar into the top 10 free apps list in Apple’s App Store charts.
Many users report being locked out of the verification process, leaving them unable to cast their ballots before the March 7 deadline.
To vote, members must verify their identity through secure.liberal.ca/verify, either in person at a Canada Post office or via the Identity+ app. However, the app has been plagued with issues, including failed passport scans, unrecognized IDs, and login errors following software updates.

So far, the Identity+ app has been slammed with 1 and 2-star reviews, currently averaging 2 out of 5 stars. Here’s a sample of some recent reviews:
- “This is the biggest waste of time… after many attempts, I am still not able to cast my vote.”
- “The app won’t work if your name isn’t written exactly the same on both identity documents.”
- “Canada Post doubtless spent zillions of our tax dollars to create this app and it is a total disaster. Now the Liberal Party requires this app be used when voting for party leader. I wonder how many people will just give up and not vote. Shameful.”
Some users believe the issue stems from name mismatches between their ID and their Liberal Party registration. A user on X (@kirkconn) explained that middle names are missing from party registrations but required by the app, leading to verification failures when ID and names don’t match up.
For users in B.C., when you change your address, the province just mails you a sticker to apply over your old address on your driver’s license/ID card. But this doesn’t change the original address tied to your card’s original bar code scan, which again results in a conflict for voter ID verification.
As of March 2, 2025, the Liberal Party of Canada says over 97,000 have “already confirmed their eligibility and verified their identity to vote.”
Despite complaints, Canada Post has not publicly addressed the widespread issues. With the verification deadline looming, voters struggling with the app may have to visit a post office in person to secure their ballot, but some have said even that still fails to work.

The way this liberal leader vote thing is a joke. I’ve wasted a fair bit of time even getting my voter ID. Same for my spouse. No reply from help email address yet. Looks like a whole lot of people are not going to be able to vote.
The post office thing seems to work, took a few hours to get it to work, the Liberal site is the problem, or perhaps they disenfranchise certain voters,
I tried to register on the app to vote Mark Carney and the app failed. The app feedback link in the app doesn't link to anything. When I chose the option to registry with Canada Post the link in the email failed and didn't link to anything. They told me I needed a QR code or a DGS number. There wasn't anything referencing either of those two things on (1) the app, (2) the emails they sent me or (3) the liberal party website. And when I asked the staff at Canada Post they told me it wasn't their job. It is their job. If the government is entrusting them to registry Canadians the government should train them on how to do that. They couldn't look up my ID or anything.
How can we expect these people to run a country when they can't even run an app?
