Amazon has launched its new Fire TV Stick 4K in Canada for $79.99 CAD, with a limited-time introductory price of $39.99 CAD starting today, September 30.
The company also unveiled a redesigned Fire TV Remote, available to pre-order for $19.99 CAD ahead of shipments in late October.
The new Fire TV Stick 4K is slimmer than its predecessor and is designed to get viewers into apps and streaming content faster. Amazon says apps launch more than 35% faster, while content starts playing nearly 20% faster compared with a similarly priced 4K streaming stick from another leading brand.
It can also draw power directly from a compatible TV’s USB port using the included cable, reducing the number of cables needed behind a television. The device runs Amazon’s Vega operating system and includes Alexa+ and the company’s new Fire TV experience.
Hardware includes 8 GB of internal storage, a quad-core 1.7 GHz processor, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and Bluetooth Low Energy. The stick supports HDR10, HDR10+, HLG and several video formats, with output up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.
Amazon is also simplifying its streaming stick lineup around the Fire TV Stick HD, Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K Max. Other existing models will remain available while supplies last.
The redesigned Fire TV Remote uses a flat top and curved, weighted bottom to make its orientation easier to recognise by touch. Buttons are indented or given distinct shapes, while the home button has its own metal surface.
A customizable star button can open a favourite app or toggle settings such as closed captioning and Screen Magnifier. The remote also includes power, volume and mute controls for compatible TVs, soundbars and receivers.
