Apple has launched its most powerful desktop yet—the new Mac Studio, featuring the latest M4 Max and M3 Ultra chips (Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman was right again). This launch coincides with today’s M4 MacBook Air.

This compact and quiet machine for professionals offers major performance boosts, Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, and up to a crazy 512GB of unified memory, the highest ever in a personal computer.

The new Mac Studio is built for demanding tasks like video editing, AI processing, and 3D rendering. With an ultra-fast SSD (up to 16TB), a high-performance CPU, and a powerful Neural Engine, it outperforms older Mac models significantly, says Apple.

“The new Mac Studio is the most powerful Mac we’ve ever made,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, in a statement. “A complete game-changer for pros around the world — powering both home and pro studios — Mac Studio sits in a class of its own, offering a staggering amount of performance in a compact, quiet design that fits beautifully on your desk. With this new Mac Studio, we’re delivering even more extreme performance with M4 Max and M3 Ultra, support for half a terabyte of unified memory, up to 16TB of superfast storage, and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity. Mac Studio truly is the ultimate pro desktop.”

Mac Studio with M4 Max

  • Up to 16-core CPU, up to 40-core GPU
  • 36GB to 128GB max unified memory
  • 3.5x faster than Mac Studio with M1 Max
  • 1.6x faster image processing in Photoshop vs. M1 Max
  • 2.9x faster than the 27-inch iMac (Intel Core i9)

Mac Studio with M3 Ultra

  • 32-core CPU, 80-core GPU
  • 96GB to 512GB max unified memory
  • Up to 16TB SSD
  • 2.6x faster than Mac Studio with M1 Ultra
  • 6.4x faster than Intel-based Mac Pro (16-core Xeon W)
  • Up to 16.9x faster AI performance with large language models

It still seems weird from a marketing standpoint to see an M3 Ultra be faster than an M4 Max. It’s still confusing for the average user. Would have been nice to see an M4 Ultra, but it seems Apple Silicon is so good they don’t need to do that just yet. But instead will continue with these small and boring incremental updates.

Mac Studio introduces Thunderbolt 5, while also has 10Gb Ethernet, HDMI, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and an SDXC card slot.

Mac Studio starts at $2,699 in Canada and $2,399 for education. Available for pre-order today and launches on March 12.

“But instead will continue with these small and boring incremental updates.”

How about sticking to the facts and news instead of constantly inserting opinions into your articles? This website has become a chess pool of ads and personal opinions instead of news focusing on iPhone in Canada.

It’s a bit disappointing but for people needing it there’s no confusion. They know what they need and what’s available.
