Canadian Students Can Get a Year of Gemini Free Until December 31

Eligible university and college students in Canada can claim one free year of Google AI Plus, Google said on Wednesday. The plan unlocks higher Gemini limits, Gemini in apps such as Gmail, and 400GB of storage.
The offer was missing from Canada when Google ran a similar back-to-school deal earlier this year. Eligible students now have until December 31, 2026, to claim it.
Google AI Plus auto-renews at $6.99 a month after the free year unless you cancel, and a valid payment method is required at signup. Google says the free year brings 2x higher usage limits than non-AI subscribers, plus Gemini tools inside Google apps and the extra storage.
A new student hub in the Gemini app points people to study tools in one place. From there, students can start a study notebook, build flashcards, or take a practice quiz. Google also highlights interactive visualizations and Gemini Live, including Deep Research that can keep working after you leave the chat and notify you when a report is ready.
Study notebooks let you upload class materials so Gemini can set a learning plan, run a diagnostic quiz, and track progress. With AI Plus, Google says you can create more notebooks with more sources. The notebooks sit alongside other Gemini study features, including the textbook library Google is pushing for students this week.
Canada was left out when Google first advertised a free 12-month AI Plus plan in August. Wednesday’s Canada blog post opens the same style of deal to eligible post-secondary students here, and Google is asking people to claim the free year before the December 31 cutoff.
Will you grab the free year for exam season, or stick with the free Gemini tier?
