It took a while, but Apple has finally released refurbished units of its base model 128GB iPhone 13 in its online store, priced at $599 as of today, based on our checks of the online store.
Five months ago, we saw Apple drop refurbished iPhone 13 in 256GB and 512GB storage capacities, priced at $729 and $979. But the cheaper 128GB version at $599 is making its debut now.
The iPhone 16e, released last month, brings several notable upgrades over the iPhone 13, which launched in September 2021.
Both models feature a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with Ceramic Shield, though the 16e is slightly thicker but lighter.
Performance-wise, the 16e is powered by the A18 Pro chip with 8GB of RAM for Apple Intelligence, offering a significant boost over the iPhone 13’s A15 Bionic chip and 4GB of RAM.
The camera system also sees a shift, with the 16e sporting a single 48MP Fusion camera for higher-resolution photos and 2x in-sensor zoom, while the iPhone 13 features a 12MP dual-camera setup with wide and ultra-wide lenses.
Battery life has improved, with the iPhone 16e offering a 4,005 mAh battery capable of up to 26 hours of video playback, compared to the iPhone 13’s 3,227 mAh battery with 19 hours of playback.
While the iPhone 16e has USB-C, while the iPhone 13 sticks with a Lightning port. However, the iPhone 16e only supports Qi wireless charging up to 7.5W and lacks MagSafe, which the iPhone 13 supports at up to 15W.
The iPhone 13 also missed out on Emergency SOS via satellite and Crash Detection (these require iPhone 14 or newer).
But if you have an aging iPhone (like an iPhone X or 11) and don’t care about Apple Intelligence and need a new phone based solely on price, a refurb iPhone 13 at $599 is reasonable for grandma or your kid. The cheapest iPhone nowadays from Apple is the iPhone 16e at $899 in Canada.
