Meta AI Launches in Europe This Week

Meta has announced its plans to roll out its Meta AI assistant across Europe, starting this week. Soon, users in 41 European countries and 21 overseas territories will have access to the chatbot.
Revealed via a blog post, Meta states that the push into Europe will encompass the largest expansion of Meta AI to date. Meta AI will become available to European users in six European languages. “This is the first step in our ongoing efforts to bring more intuitive AI to people in Europe,” the company says. Meta AI will be available across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp once available.
Meta AI first launched in the US in 2023 before becoming accessible in Canada in April of 2024. While the company has continuously been expanding its efforts to support Meta AI across the globe, European regulatory concerns prevented the AI chatbot from becoming accessible.
While Meta AI offers a number of features, European users will only be getting the text-based version of the assistant for the time being. However, Meta states that it has every intention to “find parity with the US” as time goes on.
“Over the coming weeks, we’ll take the first step in making Meta AI’s chat function available in six European languages, with a view to find parity with the US and expand our offering over time.”
While Meta AI’s functionality will be limited, users will still be able to interact with the chatbot through DM functions. Meta AI will be able to provide contextual information based on queries, including coming up with dinner ideas, planning functions, or just providing quirky interactions.
Recently, Canada just gained access to Meta AI Studio, where users can create custom AIs. Canadians can build their own AI avatars in various languages. These custom AI avatars can then answer questions and do much of what Meta AI can provide.
