Meta has introduced a series of updates to Threads, including customizable default feeds, advanced reply settings, enriched user bios, and an improved media player to offer a more engaging user experience.

One of the most anticipated updates is the ability for users to set their preferred default feed upon launching the Threads app. Previously, users were limited to a standard feed, but now they can choose between the “Following” feed, which displays posts chronologically from accounts they follow, or any custom feeds they have curated.

Threads now also offers advanced settings to manage who can reply to or quote their posts. Users can limit these interactions to followers only, reducing unwanted comments and fostering a more curated discussion environment.

In an effort to promote community building and content discovery, Threads has introduced the option for users to add up to ten topics to their bios. These topic tags allow individuals to showcase their interests and affiliations, making it easier for others to connect over shared passions. By clicking on a topic within a user’s bio, others can directly access conversations related to that subject.

Recognizing the growing importance of multimedia content, Threads has enhanced its in-app video player. The updated player now includes essential controls such as pause, play, and skip buttons, along with a pinned progress bar for easy navigation.

These updates come at a time when Threads faces increasing competition from emerging platforms like Bluesky. To retain and grow its user base, Threads has been proactive in implementing features that cater to user preferences and enhance functionality.

Additionally, the platform’s focus on improving content discovery through topic tags aligns with current social media trends that prioritize community engagement.
