Bell’s DIY Pipe Wiring Leaves Live Wires Dangling in Alley

A Bell cable installation running between two Toronto homes is drawing criticism online after photos showed live electrical wires awkwardly encased in what appear to be plumbing pipes, hanging loosely above a narrow alley.

The unusual setup has reportedly been struck by passing vehicles three times in the past year. The most recent incident caused significant property damage and prompted a 911 call, according to an X user posting under the name @JustCanadian7, who says the line has never been properly secured.

“This time [it] caused a lot of property damage and a 911 call,” the user wrote, sharing an image showing exposed wires protruding from makeshift tubing.

Telecom watchdog account @fanCRTCProfling called the setup “bizarre” and questioned its safety. “In 25 years I don’t think I ever saw someone file a CRTC Part-1 about safety issues. Maybe it’s time?” the account said, urging advocacy groups to take action.

Bell responded to the post, saying, “Thanks for bringing this concern to our attention. Please send us a Direct Message with the complete address or location to properly look into this as soon as possible.”

This is definitely the true definition of a ‘MacGyver’ install. Is this actually real?

it's not. This is an electrical stack coming off the meter, the conduit has cracked off, it fell, broke again and is vertical and live.

That's not Bell, and has nothing to do with Bell. It's hydro. Get your facts straight.

Hydro is water: The water molecule consists of 2 HYDROgen atoms bonded to 1 oxygen atom (H2O)

In Canada we call electric hydro because a high percentage of it is produced by dams.

Yes you're correct when electricity is produced by water it is called hydro, But technically hydro is water. Comes from the Greek word hydor meaning water.

And since we don't know if this electricity is produced by water, we can't call it hydro.

living in the GTA I'm not sure if I'm getting my electricity from The Pickering nuclear plant or Niagara falls…

True, but it’s because of the name of the company the electricity comes from more than the reason why the company is named that way.

Can you even read? Scott used the word hydro to describe the wiring, not me. I only explained what hydro means and I assumed nothing.

You're the one that obviously can't follow a conversation… He said it was hydro… You cannot assume it's hydro regardless if some electricity in Canada Is made with HYDRO. Everyone knows hydro mean electricity made by water.. although colloquially term… Got anymore insults to throw? 🤡

I asked you a question. Learn to read.

”He said it was hydro… You cannot assume it's hydro”

I didn’t assume. As you agreed with me, we were told that’s it is hydro. As you agreed, hydro is electricity made with water. This was my point. You agreed with me. Since you agree any effort to argue is you arguing against yourself.

If look at the lower half of the photos you will see a black cable that passes along the back side of the electrical conduit. This cable was probably strung out across the street hanging way too low. I am guessing a truck drove past catching the cable which then ripped apart the electrical service. Bell should have installed their own cable anchor on the house.
