Still on 3G? Rogers Will Start Charging You $3 a Month
Rogers customers still using older 3G mobile devices will soon see a new fee added to their bills.
Starting in May, the company is introducing a $3 per month ‘Legacy Network Usage’ charge for customers who continue to rely on its aging 2G and 3G networks, according to the Canadian Press.
The fee is being introduced ahead of the official retirement of Rogers’ 3G network on July 31, 2025. Rogers says the charge helps offset the cost of maintaining outdated network systems, which are being phased out in favour of faster and more efficient LTE and 5G networks.
Customers can avoid the charge by upgrading to a 4G or 5G-compatible device. Rogers says some users may be eligible for free device or SIM card upgrades and is encouraging anyone impacted to contact its support team.
The $3 charge will appear on bills about 60 days after usage is detected on the legacy network, and customers will receive an SMS alert when it’s applied. So that’s three months of charges until the 3G network retires this summer. Ouch if you’re still using a 3G device. Some people switch on 3G data only to save battery life on their smartphones. That sounds like it’s going to cost you.

How retarded does one need to be to believe that iPhone in Canada can accommodate your request?
how retarded does one have to be to think he was making an actual request to iPhone in Canada.
I don't know if it's manufacturer specific, but VoLTE, VoWiFi and 5G work, with Rogers, on a Nothing Phone.
I get it's old tech, but why a fee? Just contact the customer, advertise a new phone or we are shutting the network and that's it.
Rogers seriously has been going downhill the last few years.
It's a form of Trumpism—forcing existing customers on old phones to upgrade to a new phone and plan. It's a cash grab…perfectly legal (in Canada).
Watch Telus do the same…
I mean,
The tech itself is super old, so moving customers off of it makes total sense but at least offer an incentive to move away from it.
Technically, Rogers is offering free device upgrades, but with a catch:
