Nintendo and Paul Rudd Reunite to Recreate Ad For Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo has reunited with actor Paul Rudd to bring us a big hit of nostalgia in a new Nintendo Switch 2 ad. In a follow-up to its 1991 Super Nintendo Entertainment System ad, Rudd shows off the upcoming Nintendo hardware.

This weekend, Nintendo and Rudd surprised the internet with the debut of an ad titled ‘Now You’re Playing Together’. Rudd appears in the ad wearing the same outfit he wore back in 1991 in the original. However, 34 years later, the actor is now shown to be spotlighting Mario Kart World on the Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, he shows off the new GameChat functionality, playing with some friends, including Joe Lo Truglio.

The ad itself gave me a healthy dose of nostalgia. It’s a delightful reminder that Nintendo can be very playful with its promotions.

It’s been full steam ahead towards the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. The new hardware was officially revealed in early April, where details on the console as well as the launch games were shown off. Throughout the month, however, details on preorders within Canada have been tumultuous. Dealing with the ongoing effects of the economic uncertainty, Nintendo decided to delay pre-orders until April 24th.

Thankfully, it now appears as though everything is in order for Thursday, when preorders open. In Canada, the Nintendo Switch 2 launches for $629.99. A Nintendo Switch 2 bundle, complete with Mario Kart World, is also launching for $699.99. Mario Kart World on its own will cost $109.99 in Canada, according to Nintendo.

Here’s the original ad starring Paul Rudd that ran back in 1991. Nintendo uploaded the commercial to its official YouTube channel this weekend, coinciding with the debut of the new promo.

The Nintendo Switch 2, as well as Mario Kart World, launch on June 5th.
