Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Orders Delayed in Canada
Last Friday, Nintendo announced its Switch 2 pre-orders would be delayed in the US. The pre-orders were set to take place on April 9, 2025.
Nintendo told us at the time its pre-orders in Canada were still on track for the original pre-order date, but now things have changed to match what’s happening in the U.S.
“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025 in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.,” said a Nintendo spokesperson in a statement to iPhone in Canada.
The company says it “will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.”
Yesterday, Nintendo said the U.S. tariffs announced globally by President Trump could drive up the price of the Switch 2. Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser said they are “actively assessing” the situation and how it could affect pricing. Right now, it seems what’s happening in the U.S. will likely impact Canada as well.
The Switch is manufactured in various countries in Asia, including China, Vietnam and Cambodia–which are directly being affected by new U.S. tariffs. This would definitely drive up pricing beyond the original prices Nintendo announced for Switch 2.
The Nintendo Switch 2 starts from $629.99 and $699.99 bundled with the all-new Mario Kart World, with premium games speculated to cost $125 or so in Canada after exchange rates. We’re still waiting to hear official Canadian MSRP for Switch 2 titles and will let you know once we find out.
Update April 8: In regards to Canadian MSRP pricing for games, a spokesperson told us “we have nothing further to share at this time.”
Pre-orders in Canada were set to take place from Nintendo, Walmart, Best Buy and Game Stop tomorrow, but now everything has changed again.

WTF are we being impacted by US delays? They are worried about people shopping across the border? so what? extremely disappointed.
Ship directly to Canada? its not hard
I hope companies don’t start “spreading” the cost to other non tariff countries to subsidize US pricing. Example increasing the price in Canada to help keep the msrp price lower in the US.
I hope the federal government takes notice and pass laws barring this. Ethier a complete ban or heavy penalized from doing it. Can easily see the msrp between countries and tariffs.
