Everything You Need to Know: Preordering Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada

Canada, today is the big day. Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 are finally going live. Starting on April 24, you can pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 from major retailers for $629.99 ahead of its June 5th launch. In most cases, pre-orders will open at 12 PM ET/9 AM ET or in-store at opening time (local). However, there are some exceptions.

As announced last week, Nintendo is finally opening up pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 on Thursday. Following a bit of uncertainty due to the global state of the economy, the company delayed pre-orders in Canada and the US. However, following a couple of weeks, pre-orders are now being made available.

In Canada, the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for Nintendo Switch 2 is priced at $629.99 (as of April 18th). A bundle, including Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World is also available for $699.99. The launch title on its own is available for $109.99 in Canada. Other notable games and accessories that are available include Donkey Kong Bananza, the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set, and a 256GB Samsung microSD Express Card.

It’s worth noting that Walmart’s preorders are opening at 12 AM ET. For your convenience, here are links to Canadian retailers offering Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders. Links will be updated with exact retail pages when available.

Nintendo Switch 2 features a large 7.9-inch LCD screen, capable of offering 1080p resolution while playing in handheld mode. However, the hardware is capable of rendering up to 120fps at 1080p while docked and connected to a compatible display. The Nintendo Switch 2 can also support 4K at 60fps. The hardware features newly designed magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers, with a new ‘C’ button.

One of the big new features for Nintendo Switch 2 is GameChat. Supporting naitive chat functionality and video, GameChat lets up to 12 people play games and use voice chat through the hardware. With an integrated mic, players can talk to one another at a party. The company is also launching the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, offering video chat functionality. From launch on June 5th through to March 2026, GameChat will be free. Afterwards, the feature will be a paid perk via Nintendo Switch Online.

For the price of a dock I can literally buy an entire Wii U console and mod it to my heart's content.
