Meta has announced a significant update to its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, introducing real-time translation capabilities, expanded messaging features, and new frame options
The latest update enables users to engage in conversations across English, French, Italian, and Spanish, with real-time translations delivered through the glasses’ speakers.
The feature, initially introduced during Meta Connect 2024, is now available in all markets where the glasses are sold. Users can also download language packs for offline use, making it convenient for international travel.
Building on existing support for WhatsApp and Messenger, the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses now allow users to send and receive messages, as well as make audio and video calls via Instagram. This integration enhances hands-free communication, enabling users to stay connected without reaching for their phones.
Furthermore, Meta is rolling out its Live AI assistant feature, which provides continuous visual assistance by analyzing the user’s surroundings. This functionality allows for more natural interactions, such as receiving information about landmarks or assistance with tasks like cooking, without the need for repeated voice commands. The Live AI assistant is expected to launch soon in the U.S. and Canada.
In addition to software enhancements, Meta has introduced new color lens combinations for the Ray-Ban Meta Skyler frame style. The shiny chalky gray frame is now available with sapphire Transitions lenses, while the shiny black frame can be paired with clear or green tinted lenses.
Meta has also announced plans to launch the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in Mexico, India, and the United Arab Emirates, expanding their availability to a total of 17 countries.
