Xbox Price Hike Hits Canada: Here’s What You’ll Pay Now

Xbox pricing canada.

Microsoft has implemented a price increase for Xbox consoles in Canada, as of today May 1, 2025. Surprise, gamers. The price increases are worldwide so it’s not just affecting Canada.

Here’s what Microsoft had to say about the Xbox price increases in Canada. “We have adjusted recommended retailer pricing for our consoles and controllers worldwide. We also expect to adjust the pricing of some of our new, first-party games starting this holiday season to $79.99 USD. Those titles purchased on the Xbox Store have the benefit of Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing players to buy once and play on console and PC at no additional cost.”

“We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration given market conditions and the rising cost of development. Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and ensuring value for Xbox players,” said the company. Ouch.

Here are the Xbox price increases in Canada:

As of writing, retailers such as GameStop have already adjusted pricing. But Amazon.ca is still showing the old prices of $379 for the Series S and $599 for the Series X Digital edition, and Xbox controllers at $59.

It looks like prices are going up across the board and we can likely blame the tariff war for that. Expect prices in the used market to also go up too.

Why would US tariffs cause Canadian prices to go up? There must be more to this story.

Hi Ron, as an importer of goods I can help you out with this a bit. MS (Microsoft) has their systems made in China and they must import it to the US. But since the US slapped Canada with Tariffs, our government did the reciprocal tariffs thing which effects most goods we are Importing from the US. The Xbox /Switch/ PlayStation units made abroad does land and is exclusively licensed to be sold in X country ( you probably seen this written on some merchandise). But since everything is based on the USD, we get the short end of the stick so to speak. They get nailed with an extra fee, they increase it for consumers. Their worldwide distribution system is complex but they have their unit made in a country that is charging them fees. Companies will not absorb the cost… that's the bottom line.

Nintendo has their units made in Vietnam but even they got hit with tariffs, not so much and they did anticipate this, it reflects The price difference with the switch 2 in japan vs US.

Means MS and Sony did not and was waiting to see how things played out.

They sell 10 times more games, gaming assessories, and consoles, in the decade than ever before… Their profits keep increasing every quarter. This is pure greed.
