Sobeys, Safeway Join DoorDash for Grocery Delivery
DoorDash Canada has just announced a massive grocery expansion, partnering with Empire Company Limited to bring brands like Sobeys and Safeway to the delivery app.
The partnership brings hundreds of new grocery locations to the platform, making it easier for Canadians to get fresh food delivered to their doorstep in under an hour. The collaboration adds more than 500 stores from Empire’s diverse portfolio to the DoorDash Marketplace. This includes some of the most recognizable names in Canadian retail, such as Sobeys, Safeway, Foodland, IGA (excluding Quebec), FreshCo, and Thrifty Foods.
The expansion is not limited to a single region. DoorDash is rolling out these services across the country, ensuring that both urban and suburban customers can benefit from the new selection. From the Atlantic provinces to the West Coast, users can now find their local Sobeys or Safeway directly within the DoorDash app.
This partnership marks a major milestone in the ongoing “grocery wars” in Canada. As consumer habits shift, the major delivery platforms are racing to prove they can handle more than just restaurant meals. By adding a powerhouse like Empire, DoorDash is positioning itself as a one-stop shop for all household needs.
“Our goal is to provide Canadians with unparalleled convenience,” said Shilpa Arora, General Manager of DoorDash Canada. She noted that the addition of Empire’s stores is a direct response to customer demand for more high-quality grocery options on the platform.
To celebrate the launch, many of the new stores will be included in DashPass. This is DoorDash’s subscription service that offers a $0 delivery fee and reduced service fees on eligible orders.
From April 27, 2026 to May 3, 2026, consumers can also receive 30% off one order from their favourite grocery banner within Empire Company Limited’s family of brands on DoorDash.
