Apple Expected to Release iPhone 19 Air Featuring Larger Display in 2027

Apple is rumoured to be planning an iPhone 19 Air with a larger display for the second half of 2027. This release is claimed to be a part of a larger company strategy, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In a recent report from Kuo, outlining Apple’s iPhone roadmap from late 2025 through to 2027, Kuo notes which devices are likely to be released. As part of this roadmap, Kuo speculates that an iPhone 19 Air will feature a larger display than the 2026 iPhone 18 Air.

Unfortunately, Kuo doesn’t provide specific dimensions for the iPhone 19 Air. However, the device will support “a larger display vs. 18 Slim.” As part of the roadmap, Kuo regularly uses the ‘Slim’ name, likely in reference to the long-rumoured ultra-thin iPhone. While unconfirmed by the company, the iPhone Air has been widely recognized as the name of the device launching this year as the iPhone 17 Air.

It’s been rumoured that the iPhone Air will offer a much thinner design when compared to the contemporary models of iPhone. Reports have claimed that the thickness of the devices may measure in at only 0.22 inches, the thinnest of any iPhone. It’s believed that upon the debut of the iPhone 17 Air, Apple will standardize the use of a 6.6-inch display for its ultra-thin iPhone.

Kuo believes that Apple’s introduction of the iPhone Air is part of a much larger company strategy. Apple may be looking to diversify its product offerings as a response to competitors’ actions. Kuo states that “Due to intense competition, Apple needs to offer more iPhone models.” According to the analyst, ” intense competition, particularly in China,” may be the driving force of Apple’s strategic shift.

As part of this new strategy, Kuo believes Apple may start with a staggered iPhone release schedule. This may be introduced starting in 2026. According to Kuo, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Slim and foldable iPhone may all launch, leaving the base iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e to release in the first half of 2027.
