EU Filing Reveals Apple has Acquired Canadian Startup Mayday Labs
Apple has quietly acquired Canadian startup Mayday Labs known for its AI-driven calendar and scheduling tools. The acquisition, finalized in April 2024, was disclosed in a recent filing made under the EU’s Digital Markets Act (via MacRumors).

Founded by Jeremy Bell, Mayday Labs developed an intelligent calendar application designed for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users. The app utilized artificial intelligence to automatically schedule events and tasks at optimal times, learning user preferences and daily routines to enhance productivity.
Following the acquisition, Mayday Labs’ application was discontinued, and its website taken offline. Apple acquired the company’s intellectual property and secured rights to employ certain team members, suggesting an integration of Mayday’s technology and expertise into Apple’s ecosystem.
While Apple has not publicly commented on the acquisition, by incorporating Mayday’s technology, Apple could enhance its native Calendar app by introducing intelligent scheduling functionalities, such as context-aware event suggestions and adaptive rescheduling, in future iOS updates.
Mayday Labs is among several AI-focused startups Apple has acquired in recent years, including Datakalab and DarwinAI, both specializing in efficient, on-device AI processing.
The acquisition reflects Apple’s commitment to on-device AI processing, prioritizing user privacy and data security. By processing data locally, Apple aims to provide faster, more secure user experiences without relying heavily on cloud-based services.

As Apple continues to integrate AI technologies into its products, users can anticipate more intelligent and personalized experiences across the Apple ecosystem.
