Apple’s iOS 19 Might Solve One of Your Biggest Travel Headaches

Wifi hotel iphone.

Apple is planning a small but very welcome update for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Sunday PowerOn newsletter.

The company is working on a feature that will let your devices share Wi-Fi portal logins with each other. What’s that mean? Think of when you visit a hotel, office, or gym. Right now, you have to fill out the annoying Wi-Fi login page on every single device. With this new update, you’d only have to do it once and your other Apple devices would automatically get the connection details.

Gurman says this feature is likely to be part of iOS 19 and will be announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) next month.

The update comes as Apple tries to impress app makers and users despite some challenges. Gurman points out that Apple has faced delays (like smart AI Siri updates that were promised last year but never launched), stiff AI competition, and even tariff threats that could raise prices.

According to Gurman, the big themes for Apple’s upcoming WWDC in June will include a fresh new design across all Apple devices, smarter Apple Intelligence features with AI integrated into more apps, and improvements to iPadOS to make it function more like a Mac (finally?).

He also hinted at a couple of additional features in the works, such as a live translation mode for conversations using AirPods and a revamped Health app that includes an AI-powered health coach.

Logging into Wi-Fi portals on each device when you travel is definitely a pain point. If Apple can make this easier, I’m all for it.

Meh. This is not a headache. It’s usually your room number and last name or some other easily entered values. The problem with these captive portals is when they restrict the number or type of devices you can connect or charge for the connection(s).

Better to get a travel router. Then all your devices connect to your network only, possibly with a VPN built in.
