Trump Demands iPhones Be Made in America—Or Face Massive Tariff
U.S. President Donald Trump is once again targeting Apple over where its iPhones are made.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said on Friday morning he has already told Apple CEO Tim Cook that iPhones sold in the United States should be built in America — not in India or other countries.
“If that is not the case,” Trump wrote, “a Tariff of at least 25% must be paid by Apple to the U.S.”
Apple manufactures most of its iPhones in China and has recently expanded production to India. Trump has frequently called for U.S. companies to bring manufacturing back to the United States.
Here is the full post from Trump:
I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhone’s that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else. If that is not the case, a Tariff of at least 25% must be paid by Apple to the U.S. Thank your for your attention to this matter!
The fresh threats on Apple sent shares down 2.73%, while the stock market also went red as whole, due to Trump also threatening 50% tariffs on the European Union. Any tariffs on Apple’s iPhones will likely be passed onto consumers. Let’s sit back and wait to see what happens here, besides the rhetoric from the U.S. President. Shifting outside iPhone production to the U.S. can’t happen overnight.

At 25%, it'll still be a cheaper iPhone than if built in the US. Pity Agent Orange getting rid of all the undocumented workers who might otherwise work in sweatshops making less than minimum wage. Even so – it'd be hard to find folks willing on making around $US2.50 / hr on 65 to 85 hour weeks, and living in dorms – as is done with Foxconn in China.
Those wouldn’t be the work condition in USA. It wouldn’t be a sweat shop other then the heat
