OpenAI has quietly introduced a new annual subscription plan for ChatGPT users on Apple devices in Canada.
The plan costs $249 CAD per year, offering a discount compared to the existing $24.99 CAD monthly ChatGPT Plus plan. By choosing the yearly option, users save $50.88 CAD annually, according to iPhone in Canada reader Francis, who spotted the change.
This joins the advanced subscription tier called ChatGPT Pro, which costs $249 per month. Here’s a screenshot showing the annual ChatGPT Plus plan on iOS:
The Free ChatGPT plan gives users access to GPT-4.1 mini, web browsing, basic file uploads, and limited tools like image generation and voice mode. It also includes code editing on macOS and the ability to use custom GPTs.
The ChatGPT Plus plan includes everything in Free but with expanded limits and features. Users get access to advanced voice and video tools, larger models like GPT-4.5, and early access to new features, making it better for productivity and complex tasks. As of writing, on the web, OpenAI only offers monthly pricing for ChatGPT. No annual pricing is available so this may possibly be an Apple exclusive.
The only other annual plan available from ChatGPT is its Team plan, which is billed per user, with options for monthly or annually.
Apple users can integrate ChatGPT with Apple Intelligence on iPhone in iOS 18 for enhanced features like Siri-powered responses, writing tools, and visual analysis. You can use ChatGPT without an account, but connecting a free or paid account unlocks more advanced capabilities.
How to access this cheaper annual ChatGPT plan? On your Apple device, head to Settings, tap your profile picture, then tap Subscriptions. You can change from your existing monthly over to the annual plan.

I only see the 24.99 monthly in the app on the iPhone. how did you get the yearly option?
Is ChatGPT Plus $24.99/mo Canadian when subscribing on the iPhone? Because subscribing on the website is US$20/mo which is actually higher after applying the exchange rate. Usually subscribing via iPhone for services such as Spotify cost more due to the 30% Apple tax, so this is a switch!
