Pokémon Legends: Z-A Set to Release on October 16
The Pokémon Company has today officially confirmed that Pokémon Legends: Z-A will release on October 16, 2025, for both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Digital pre-orders commence on June 5, coinciding with the Switch 2’s launch. Players purchasing the game on the original Switch can upgrade to the Switch 2 version via an upgrade pack available through the Nintendo eShop and My Nintendo Store.
Set in a reimagined Lumiose City from the Kalos region, the game centers around an urban redevelopment initiative led by the enigmatic Quasartico Inc. Players will navigate through “Wild Zones”—designated areas where wild Pokémon roam freely. The game introduces a real-time combat system, allowing trainers and their Pokémon to move dynamically during battles, dodge attacks, and strategically time their moves.
Mega Evolutions make a significant return in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. This feature enables certain Pokémon to temporarily evolve into more powerful forms during battles, enhancing their abilities and potentially altering their types. Notable Mega Evolutions include Mega Charizard X and Y, Mega Lucario, and Mega Gengar.
At the game’s outset, players can choose from three starter Pokémon: Chikorita (Grass-type), Tepig (Fire-type), or Totodile (Water-type). Each offers unique abilities and evolutionary paths, catering to diverse playstyles.
To celebrate the upcoming release, new Mega Evolution-themed merchandise is now available at Pokémon Centers across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. The collection features giant pins of Mega Charizard X and Y, along with apparel and accessories showcasing Mega Venusaur, Mega Gengar, and Mega Lucario.

Additionally, The Pokémon Company has scheduled a Pokémon Presents livestream for July 22, 2025. The event is expected to provide further insights into Pokémon Legends: Z-A and other developments within the Pokémon universe.
