Google Adds Gemini AI Summary Cards to Gmail Mobile App

Google is rolling out Gemini-powered summary cards in the Gmail app for Android and iOS.

These cards will now appear at the top of long or complex email threads, offering a quick recap of key points and replies—no need to manually tap “Summarize this email.” The summaries are AI-generated using Gemini and will update automatically as the thread evolves.

The feature is currently only available for English emails. Users will need to have smart features enabled in their Gmail settings to see the new cards. For messages that don’t show a card, the older “Summarize” option is still available.

Here’s a screenshot of what the new Gmail summary cards look like from Gemini. A brief summary is shared at the top of your email in easy to read bulletpoints:

The update is available to Google Workspace users across most paid tiers—including Business Starter, Enterprise plans, and Google One AI Premium—as well as those with Gemini Education add-ons.

Google says the rollout for Rapid Release domains starts immediately, while Scheduled Release domains will see it gradually appear starting May 29, 2025.
