Nintendo Releases Several Patches For Switch Games to Run on Switch 2

A day before the release of Nintendo Switch 2, the company has released a series of patches for its first-party titles. These small patches include optimizations to allow the games to run better on the new hardware.
As first reported by Video Games Chronicle, dataminer OatmealDome discovered a collection of patches made by Nintendo. These patches were developed for many of Nintendo’s first-party Switch games. For the most part, the patches include notes indicating “Several adjustments have been made to improve gameplay on Nintendo Switch 2.”
The games to receive new patches include:
- Brain Age
- Kirby Star Allies
- Kirby’s Dream Buffet
- Pikmin 3 Deluxe
- Super Mario 3D All-Stars
- Super Mario Bros Wonder
- Xenoblade Chronicles 3
In most cases, Nintendo notes that the games are being “optimized for the Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs for improved image quality.” Additionally, many first-party titles are receiving GameShare support. Some titles are being patched to enable HDR or Joy-Con 2 mouse controls.
However, Pikmin 3 Deluxe is the only title that includes more in-depth patch notes to date. In this case, it states that the patch “partially alleviates an issue that occurs when playing on Nintendo Switch 2, where the entire screen flickers during some scenes in the game, such as when a day starts and ends”. However, according to Nintendo, a future patch will be released to “fix this completely.”
These aforementioned titles join a growing list of Nintendo Switch games to receive free Switch 2 updates. Earlier in May, Nintendo patched 12 existing games, including 51 Worldwide Games, New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
